Posh Pints hit Top Restaurants

The days of carefully selecting the right wine to accompany your meal could be over, and the wine list replaced with a beer list.

Top restaurants will tap into Britain’s brewing heritage and offer a range of beers to suit different tastes and different meals. As a beer drinker I welcome this. I often like a pint with my meal (not that I eat in posh restaurants) and would like more choice, and not to feel unsophisticated. But read this paragraph:

Goldings are the unoaked Chardonnays of Chablis, Fuggles are the earthy Syrah of the Rhône, the apricot-scented First Gold hops are the Viognier whites of the Rhône, and Cascade the Sauvignon Blancs of New Zealand

from the director of the beer academy. I hope we can say a good beer can acompany a good meal, without adding all the (no doubt French) pretention that goes with it. We don’t need a Jilly Goolden of beer!
