Many accusations of racism have been levelled at Boris Johnson in his mayoral campaign, but his first appointment is of Ray Lewis, a Black school chief who has run a successful inner city school, with strong discipline and traditional teaching.
It looks to me like Mr Lewis is a man who has actually achieved something, and hopefully can bring his experience into a city wide role, as he is being special responsibility for crime. After the disaster of Lee Jasper for Ken, people may be intially sceptical. But Ken Livingstone’s race advisor Lee Jasper, always seemed to have made his career out of heading Black organisations and fighting percieved White racism, so a problem solver rather than a blamer of others seems an improvement.
Don’t know what the BNP voters advised to give Johnson second preference votes will make of this!
