BNP Deserve Access to Democracy

A local newspaper has been criticised for running as BNP advert in the lead up to the London elections. Of the 11 complaints, one was from a reader, the rest from politicians and journalists.

I do not support the BNP, but they are a legal political party. If we believe they are acceptable to stand for elections it is highly undemocratic to harass them by other means. Allowing them to stand, but banning their adverts or sacking them from jobs for membership (example) is the sort of tactics more worthy of a Robert Mugabe than a supposed enlightened democracy.

The paper’s editor get’s my quote of the day.
