Scots “Invented Britishness”

according to Professor Ronald Hutton. They did it to deal with being overwhelmed by Englishness. It includes the bizarre claim that a Scot wrote God Save the Queen, although no-one seems to know who wrote it. There is plenty else of Britishness talked about in this piece, which concludes that Britain is “A nation that managed to thrive by getting on with everyone else”.

Who would of thought that Gordon Brown re-inventing Britishness was simply carrying on a Scottish tradition.
