Public Sector Pay Rises Under 2%, Except Teachers!

Police, who’s pay was controversially kept to 1.9% by staggering their recommended 2.5% pay rise are understandably upset at news that teachers will get 2.45%. Despite saying pay must be kept down to curb inflation. So, not really joined up thinking from government then. It’ll be even harder to persuade MPs, who can vote for their own salary lounges, to keep their raise under 2% as Gordon Brown wants. And when MPs vote themselves 2.8% are the police going to be happy with 1.9%? Probably not. What about other public sector workers like nurses. There may be trouble ahead.
